General Information

Originally from Louisiana, Michelle de Metz (b. 1968), a diverse and reclusive painter, works in both Dallas, Texas and the Texas Hill Country (the estate studio is a short drive from either Austin or San Antonio). The artist's works can be found in private collections in New York, California, Palm Beach, Dallas, New Orleans, Paris, and Brazil. Natural elements are incorporated into every painting, whether figurative, abstract, surreal, sculptural, or enigmatic. Each work is unique, distinctively that of the artist. With a strong focus on philosophical inquiry, most works aren't always what they may at first seem and usually contain subtle puzzles intended to engage the viewer to assert his or her own interpretations. Working primarily in oils on various supports, no more than three large scale representational paintings are produced per year. The artist is a proud member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), Women Artists of the West, The Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, Order of the Eastern Star, and numerous other national and local fine arts organizations.
Michelle de Metz is delighted to represent the United States at the 2009 Florence Biennial in Florence, Italy December 5th through 13th.
*Current works in progress for the exciting 2009 "Prima Vera--Renaissance in the Soul " series is scheduled for completion Fall 2009. The works will explore intensifying emotional reactions to painting by driving the expected two-dimensional paintings into an unexpected third dimension via sculpture, architectural style supports, imaginative use of textiles (sewn, layered canvas, silk, etc.), and the addition of textural form that incorporates an innovative use of gesso and ground. Not to be missed!
